This is the first of my Salerno scenarios. My design focus was a manageable unit count for both sides and a smaller map with more detail. To play you will need my Altavilla map, my Eastern Front Estab file, and the scenario file “Forsyth’s Fight.” I hope you enjoy it.

Operation Avalanche: Sep 12, 1943 04:00Hrs
Historical Background: Having consolidated the bridgehead around Paestum, and the high ground of Mt. Soprano, Maj Gen Dawley VI Corps Commander ordered Maj Gen Walker's 36th Lonestar Division to expand the bridgehead to the east towards the hilltop villages of Albanella and Altavilla. In the ensuing battle, Walker was to commit four of his seven available battalions as the struggle for Altavilla intensified. The key to the region wasn't the village - it was Hill 424 above it - and the Germans were well aware of its importance. -From Salerno 1943 By Angus Konstam
Scenario Description: 2nd Bn 142 Regimental Combat Team has got themselves in a pickle. During the middle of the night, it's commander Lt. Col Barron has been killed by a German mortar shell in the middle of a sharp German counterattack. The battalion's rifle companies have been driven off the summit of Hill 424 and separated from its Heavy Weapons company which has retreated 3km away to the small village of Cerelli.
Lt. Col. Forsyth, 142 RCT Commander, is leading the counterattack to rescue the 2/142 and to seize the key objectives: Altavilla, Hill 423, and Hill 424.
3/142 is charged with capturing Hill 423, while 3/143 and 1/142 will support them with attacks on Altavilla and Hill 424.
Scenario duration: 15 hrs and 31 minutes
Unit Count: Axis 20 and Allies 28
There is a Favor Axis schedule that feeds additional elements of the 29th PzG Division into the battle in support of KG Ulich.
Notes: Supporting American artillery battalions are static.
I have given the German artillery battalion mobility.
To give each commander tactical flexibility the MG platoons have been removed from the Heavy weapons company of each battalion and can be issued separate commands.
This scenario can be played from either side.
